摘要

Maintenance and building services firm May Gurney had no safe system to separate employees from vehicles at its waste recycling centre in Canvey Island, Essex, despite ensuring that the public was segregated from skip loader trucks. Construction giant Kier acquired May Gurney in July 2013, six months after a worker at the centre sustained serious injuries when he was crushed between a skip and a truck. Kier was fined 160,000 pounds with costs of 9809 pounds by Chelmsford Crown Court after pleading guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act and Regulation 17(1) of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992.
