Celebrating 40 years of the Health and Safety at Work Act

This year sees the 40th anniversary of the Health and Safety at Work Act, which came into effect after the 1972 report of the committee set up by Harold Wilson's government and chaired by Lord Robens. This new piece of legislation created one of the biggest changes in the way organisations were expected to care for their workers since the earliest legislation, such as the Health & Morals of Apprentices Act 1802, which introduced the concept that factory owners owed a duty to protect employees.
