摘要

WHEN Alexander Pope said a little learning is a dangerous thing, he wasn't arguing against education per se, but against going into it half-heartedly. "Drink deep" from the spring of knowledge, Pope warned, "or not at all". For health and safety professionals, drinking deep can mean years of study, usually while holding down a full-time job. It's a daunting commitment, but increasingly a necessary one. Recruiters report the proportion of employers asking for a degree-level qualification — such as NVQ Level 4 or the NEBOSH National Diploma — as a basic requirement is rising every year.
