UKATA raps HSE asbestos app

The HSE's Beware Asbestos smartphone app "appears to have been produced without any input from competent asbestos trainers, and without any input from personnel experienced in asbestos works", according to the United Kingdom Asbestos Training Association (UKATA). The HSE launched the Beware Asbestos app in October last year as part of its latest campaign to increase awareness of the dangers of asbestos among tradespeople. The app uses a decision matrix and an image gallery of asbestos containing materials to help workers protect themselves when undertaking small tasks that involve disturbing the hazardous material, for which the law does not require a licensed contractor.
