UK health and safety practitioners have to operate a background which includes a perception of their profession among a section of the public, encouraged by lazy journalism, that it avoids risk and spoils fun. Professionals who understand their role to be the management of risk rather than its avoidance have to find a way to support organisations to fulfil their legal obligations while, at the same time, build healthy, sustainable businesses.
