John Lewis fined for asbestos failings

RETAILER John Lewis and refurbishment contractor Morris & Spot-tiswood have been ordered to pay fines totalling 40,000 pounds after both firms failed to manage asbestos safely during work at the retailer's Edinburgh store. Officers from City of Edinburgh Council investigated the problems in July 2008 after up to 15 people may have been exposed to fibres when workers disturbed an asbestos board while refurbishing an office suite.
