Winners from the four corners--Louis Wustemann opens the envelope on this year's DuPont World Safety Awards

THE DIFFERENCES in the physical risks posed by business tasks around the world, and in human behaviour in the face of them, are small compared with the similarities. So what distinguished the entrants to the seventh DuPont World Safety Awards, which came from countries as culturally diverse as Kazakhstan, Qatar, Hungary and Spain, was not the exotic nature of their hazards, but how creatively and thoroughly they were trying to tackle the familiar ones, such as road risk and manual handling. The five award winners were announced on 8 October at DuPont's Annual World Leaders' Forum in Geneva, which drew more than 200 delegates from around the globe.
