摘要

INSOLVENT high-street retailer Woolworths and licensed asbestos removal contractor LCH Contracts have been fined a total of 70,000 pounds after staff at two Woolworths stores in Devon were exposed to asbestos. Torridge District Council brought the prosecution after an investigation into refurbishment work carried out at the Tiverton and Bideford branches in 2004. The work involved removing asbestos insulating board (AIB) ceiling tiles so that electricians updating the till systems could run cables through the ceiling voids. Partical Analysis, consultants hired by Woolworths to manage asbestos in their stores, subcontracted the work to LCH.
