Halifax settles shutter claim at 300 000 pounds

Bank of Scotland (HBOS) has agreed to pay 300 000 pounds compensation to an employee who was injured when a security shutter in one of its branches struck her on the arm, leaving her unable to work. The incident took place in September 2002 when the employee was helping to carry out a routine test of the shutter, fitted to the counters in the Torquay branch of the Halifax bank. The shutters are designed to rise suddenly in the event of a robbery, blocking access to the staff and money.
