Persistent Land and Sea Pollutants

Persistent pollutants currently detected in the environment include DDT (dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane) and HCH (hexachlorocyclohexane) pesticides, which were previously used widely in agriculture (against crop pests) and in health care (against infection carriers), as well as PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), used in industry. The incredibly wide scales of applying these pollutants and their extremely high persistence have led to heavy environmental consequences.
