March 12, 2013, marked the 150th anniversary of the birth of Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky, an out standing representative of Russian and world science. After decades of reviewing his creative legacy, we are becoming increasingly aware of his multifaceted and broad scientific and philosophical outlook, as well as of the role that he played in the development of modern natural science.
