In the present work, we describe the synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) using the root and leaf extracts from Vetiveria zizanioides and Cannabis sativa, respectively and its comparison between the two different chemical synthesis methods. UV-visible spectroscopy, particle formation kinetics and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses were performed to ascertain the formation of AuNPs. The synthesized AuNPs were characterized by a peak at 538 nm in the UV-visible spectrum. SEM images revealed that all particles were spherical with a narrow size range of 10-35 nm. Antifungal activity of AuNPs was tested for different fungal pathogens using standard disk diffusion method. AuNPs prepared using green synthesis method was found to be more effective antifungal agent and showed decrease in size as compared to other chemical preparation methods. The results suggest that the synthesized AuNPs can be useful as effective antifungal agent. It is confirmed that AuNPs are capable of rendering high antifungal efficacy and has a great potential for anti-fungal therapy.
