I read with great interest the article by Eivazi-Ziaei et al. that was recently published in Hematology. In this paper, the authors investigated the role of red cell flags (RCF) and in particular its first digit (RCF1) -which is a rough estimate of red cell distribution width (RDW) - in the differential diagnosis between thalassemia trait (TT) and iron deficiency anemia (IDA).
