Companies employing technical professionals face a common dilemma: how to establish reward systems and work environments that are both stimulating to the professional and productive for the organization. Standard management strategies for motivating, rewarding, and leading non-technical employees frequently fail to work for those involved in research, development, and engineering, resulting in performances which are suboptimal for the individual and the organization.
