The average U.S. retail gasoline price went up 1.7 c/gal, to 2.80/gal in the week ending Sept. 26, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said. The small gain occurred after two consecutive weeks of record decreases in the retail gasoline price, coming down from a post-Hurricane Katrina high. Hurricane Rita has stopped the downward trend and could send the price back up when price gains in the wholesale market are passed through the pump.
