ASTM PLANS ACTION ON GASOLINE DI, ETHANOL SULFATES AND CORROSION TEST

Pittsburgh, Pa. - ASTM members meeting here agreed to take action on a number of gasoline quality issues. Members of the section on Gasoline and Oxygenated Fuels will be polled to see if a two-thirds majority would support changing the Driveability Index (DI) by adding a term to the equation that would reflect the impact of ethanol on driveability. They will also receive a ballot asking if they would support limiting the sulfate content of ethanol. The Silver Corrosion Task Force may include as many as four test methods in a laboratory "round robin" to determine a permanent method for measuring silver corrosion.
