Deepwater Flow Assurance

Some sectors of the oil and gas industry may believe the transport of single-phase natural gas using long-distance deepwater pipelines is a straightforward process, compared with operating multiphase pipelines or production flowlines. Yet, even in these single-phase deepwater lines, significant challenges exist to ensure gas remains single-phase and hydrate-free. Improved understanding of phase behavior of the export of gas can lead to more effective planning for flow assurance in deep water. This process involves the use of thermal-hydraulic analysis to define the operating envelope and evaluate commissioning activities, initial start-up and upset operating conditions.
