Italy's Eni Reports Higher Profit in First Half 2006

Eni, Italy's integrated energy company, reported operating profits rose nearly 29.4% to euro10.5 billion (13.4 billion) in the first half 2006, thanks largely to strong performance of the upstream division. In contrast, refining margins were lower, down 21% compared to the first half of 2005. The downstream segment's operating profit was euro455 million in the first half 2006 versus euro865 million in the first six months of 2005.
