API STATISTICS SHOW DEMAND SLUMP IN OCTOBER

Refinery shut-ins along the U.S. Gulf Coast dropped U.S. refinery utilization to 79.7% in October, obscuring the fact that refineries outside the Gulf Coast increased production over October 2004 levels. Those efforts were not sufficient to sustain product output for the country as a whole, according to the American Petroleum Institute (API), which released statistics showing a significant reduction in supply during October.
