Nursing Shortage Continues

It is not surprising that the nursing shortage in our nation was one issue addressed by the Joint Commission in 2001 when it identified the critical issues that affect quality and safety in health care, because this problem has been a growing concernin the industry. Since 2001, the Joint Commission's public policy initiatives have focused on identifying achievable solutions to current health care problems. Roundtable discussions have been held with experts and stakeholders who are knowledgeable about and affected by the issues. These people study the problems, share ideas, identify potential solutions, and lay the groundwork for the development of white papers that can be widely distributed in the industry.
