During your next survey by the Joint Commission on Accréditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), it will he unknown where surveyors will go, which staff members they'll speak with, and which patients will be traced. But, one thing is certain, patient safety is a hot button! Practitioners who have already had their surveys in 2005 have reported other primary areas of focus to include medication safety issues, clinical staff competencies, interdisciplinary communications, and patient education. Food-drug-interaction education remains of interest as well as the nutrition screening and assessment processes.
