It was probably the 18th century inventor and politician Benjamin Franklin who said: "Beer is the proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy". With worldwide beer production output in 2004 reaching 1,552,118,000 hectolitres, it is clear that imbibing this alcoholic beverage continues to give pleasure and new markets are opening up, particularly in the emerging economies of China, the CIS and India.
