Water & wastewater: Solar power brings community benefits

In poor rural areas around the world, one of the only ways of making money is to grow vegetables on a little plot of land during dry season and selling them at the local market. To support such small-scale farming activities and thus contribute to the challenge of alleviating global poverty, NGOs and engineers are developing affordable solar irrigation technology which expands the potential for cultivation, reduces the associated labour burden and provides an alternative to fossil fuel pumps.
