Choose the laying nest that fills the bill

Laying nests are an integral part of all floor/litter housing systems for layers and breeders. The nest type and management influence both exterior and interior egg quality as well as the number of eggs. What are the important issues to look at? In apoultry house the hen can choose where to lay her egg: on the floor or in a nest. If eggs are laid outside the nest (floor eggs), their quality will be affected and labour costs increased. It is therefore important to make a laying nest as attractive tothe hens as possible. Therefore: "A good nest is a nest in which all hens will lay eggs and has no negative effect on egg quality, which minimises labour costs for egg collection.
