Clean water is child's play with Roundabout Outdoor's pumps

A South African charity called Roundabout Outdoor, is manufacturing new 'roundabout' pumps for Africa's most isolated areas. Designed as children's playground roundabouts, the pumps use the kinetic energy generated from 25 children on the roundabout to produce 1400 litres of water per hour at an average 16 rpm, effective up to a depth of 100m. This is more economical and effective than either petrol or hand pumps. Sarah Vanton explains.
