Today's pumps are required to handle tougher duties than ever before. Abrasives, strong chemicals, and upset conditions can wreak havoc on a pump's components. To counter this, pump manufacturers have, for example, been working to extend thecapability of their products by combining newly developed shaft coatings with high-tech bearing materials. J P Boylan explains how materials suppliers are working to create ever better materials, which can assist manufacturers in the improvement of theirpumps.
