Embryo temperature proves to be the best indicator to set the air temperature inside the incubator. At VIV Europe Petersime will be launching their new temperature controller, which during incubation constantly adjusts the air temperature to maintainan optimal environment for the embryo. Modern high yielding breeds are more sensitive to incubation conditions then the classic type breeds. Due to their higher heat production, eggs are overheated more easily during incubation with a negative effect onhatch results and the quality of day old chicks. These are incentives to focus more on embryo temperature than on air temperature. The air temperature in the incubator has then to be corrected in order to keep the desired egg temperature at a predetermined level (e. g. 100 deg F). In recent years more and more data has become available showing positive effects on bird performance when broilers have been incubated by controlling embryo temperature. If this temperature is either too high or too low, the metabolism of the embryo slows down and development of the digestive system is no longer optimal.
