Reduced energy consumption, increased service life and, therefore, improved profitability - these are all possible using the latest industrial pump technologies. Such machines still offer huge potential for savings that can be tapped using a new system efficiency service. Pumps for water and other fluids are commonplace in industrial systems, power plants and in the water and wastewater sectors. Although pump operating costs are considerable, it is astonishing how much can be saved with improved system efficiency For example, the savings potential for industrial pumps in Germany alone amounts to 15 billion kWh/year. This is equivalent to an amount of energy that would require two 800 mW power stations for its generation. If this electricity were generated by a coal-fired power plant, it would involve CO~2 emissions of around 930 million tonnes. Potential savings are clearly there for the taking, and in the face of consistently high pressure on costs, increasingly strict regulations and the long-term impact on the environment, it is crucial to exploit them.
