The process that is used to manufacture steel can be an extremely delicate one. Part of the pre-treatment process involves very corrosive fluids like hydrochloric acid and flux fluids; any pump that is used will need to last at least ten years. One steel manufacturer found the solution in solid-body plastic air-operated double-diaphragm (AODD) pumps - which, after six year of use, were found to be in perfect condition.
