With many of the easily accessible stores of hydrocarbon energy having been recovered, the world's offshore exploration activities are migrating into exceedingly hostile environments and pushing the boundaries of technology and materials. Reserves are being explored in ever deeper waters and remote locations where development requires the oil and gas industry to push the boundaries of existing technologies.
