Proppant flowback remedial treatment brings dead well back to life

An Egyptian oil well was shut in after only three days, when solids production destroyed the production pump. Treated with a new aqueous-based consolidation and proppant flowback control (CPFC) system, the well resumed solids-free production until it was depleted. Khalda Production Company's Shrouk #3 oil well, in Egypt's Western Desert, was recently recompleted with hydraulic fracture stimulation. Initial production was around 1,000 bopd. The well produced large amounts of proppant, and within three days, solids output destroyed the production pump. The operator shut down the well while searching for a solution to the proppant flowback problem. Well parameters are shown in Table 1.
