Bucket-wheel excavator 285 in the Garzweiler opencast mine - First rehabilitation of the ring-support cover-plate of the excavator substruc ture under load including ball race replacement
Excavator 285 is the first bucket-wheel excavator with a designed daily capacity of 200,000 bm~3 (subsequently referred to as 200,000 class) in the Rhenish lignite mining area. With a height of 75 m, a total length including boom of 210 m and a total load including loading unit of approx. 13,5401, this excavator opened up a new dimension of mine equipment at the time of its design. It was developed and constructed in a joint project of the companies Ohrenstein & Koppel and Krupp Industrie- und Stahlbau, in close collaboration with the operator. Thus, this excavator is a milestone on the path to the introduction of the so-called 240,000 capacity class. Excavator 285 was commissioned in the Fortuna opencast mine, which was still in operation at the time, in 1975.
