The chemical recycling of waste polyethylene terephthalate (PET) can be carried out in many ways, such as glycolysis, hydrolysis and simultaneous hydrolysis and glycolysis. The aim of most chemical recycling procedures is to obtain monomers, such as terephthalic acid (TPA), ethylene glycol (EG), and bis(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET). The first two can be obtained by hydrolysis under neutral, acidic or alkaline conditions and the last by glycolysis of waste PET.
