BASF triples income in first quarter but says recovery still shaky

BASF reported a three-fold rise in net income for the first three months of the year and said its industry businesses were almost back to pre-crises levels of performance. Renewed demand, particularly from automotive, electric and electronic industries helped push net income to over ?1 billion as sales rose 26% from ?12.2million in the year ago quarter to ?15.5million this time.
