摘要

Static electricity has been cited as a cause of numerous explosions in the petroleum industry, many of which involved the build-up of static electricity in oil tanks. Consequendy many countries have established electrostatic protection control standards. In order to ensure safe operation of oil tanks, the inner wall of the tanks should be coated with antistatic and anticorrosive coatings to prevent corrosion, inhibit the generation of static charges and aid the release of any charge build-up. The electrical conductivity of the coatings increases with the use of antistatic agents, conductive pigments and intrinsically conductive polymers. This paper gives a useful, short overview of antistatic coatings and the effect of formulation on performance, before discussing the preparation of a light colour antistatic and anticorrosive waterborne epoxy coating.
