Body and gloss of waterborne paints: The same or a significant difference?

Although it is possible to obtain a similar level of specular gloss for both waterborne and solventborne coatings on a smooth substrate (such as a glass plate), on a rough surface the waterborne coating typically has a much lower level of specular gloss than the solventborne coating. This is explained by the fact that solventborne coatings have a good 'body', ie they produce a smooth surface and hide surface roughness of the underlying substrate. Waterborne coatings, however, have poor body, they 'telegraph' the substrate's surface irregularities.
