摘要

A New Jersey hatchery is piloting research to evaluate the feasibility of rearing horseshoe crab eggs harvested from Delaware Bay beaches.Early last fall technicians and students from Rutgers University and Richard Stockton College, volunteers from the Nature Conservancy, the Wedands Institute, the New Jersey Audubon Society and the New Jersey Sea Grant program released around 6,000 tinyhorseshoe crab {Limuluspolyphemus) hatchlings into the waters of Chesapeake Bay.The release is part of an ongoing project at the Rutgers Aquaculture Innovation Center (AIC) - allied to New Brunswick University's Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences (IMCS) - to replenish the number of crabs in the bay and create economic opportunities in southern New Jersey.
