Effect of different herbicides and their time of application on plant growth, number yield of different grade tubers in potato

The experiment was comprising of six.herbicides viz: metribuzin 0.5 kg/ha; thiazopyr 0.24 kg/ha; linuron 1.0 kg/ha; prometryn 1.0 kg/ha and pendimethalin L.Skg/ha each was applied at 7,14and21 DAP and paraquat 0.6 kg/ha was applied 12DAPonly along with weeding + earthing-up done at 25 days after planting (DAP); weed free, and weedy check treatments. Plant emergence and stem per hill recorded at 30 DAP, and plant height recorded at 90 DAP were not significantly influenced by different treatments. Maximum number as well as yield of A and B grade tubers were recorded in linuron 1.0 applied at 7 DAP, while minimum was recorded in weedy check. Yield and number of C-grade tubers was maximum in weeding + earthing up. Number of D-grade tubers was not influenced, while yield was influenced during 2002-03 only. It was maximum in metribuzin 0.5 at 21 DAP. Total tuber number was maximum in linuron 1.0 applied at 7 DAP during 2001-02 and metribuzin 0.5 applied at 7 DAP during 2002-03, while yield during both the years was maximum in linuron 0.5 applied at 7 DAP. Total tuber number as well as total tuber yield was manimum in control.
