摘要

Private fish hatcheries are being blamed for an increasing problem with non-native carp in the Missouri River Basin and in areas of the Illinois. Growing numbers of anglers and boaters have reported injuries as silver carp leap unexpectedly as much as eight feet (2.4m) in the air, sometimes landing in passing boats, covering everything they touch with slime, and creating new hazards for both boats and their occupants. The fish, which have weighed up to about 30 pounds (13kg), have caused a range ofinjuries, including a broken nose, black eye, damaged larynx, large bruises, and a filling knocked out of a tooth.
