The physico-chemical characters of fruits of cape goosebery (Physalis peruviana L.) genotype Aligarh were studied from November 10, 2003 to January 26, 2004 and the fruit weight, volume, specific gravity, colour, TSS, TSS/acid were observed to be closely associated in determining the maturity period. Under humid sub-tropical climate of Amritsar in Punjab, the fruits of this genotype reached peak maturity on January 19 to 23, 2004 after 95 to 99 days of fruit set when fruits attained weight 11.5 g, specific gravity 1.06, fruit volume 10.9 cc, TSS above 12.3 per cent and the TSS/acid ratio above 15.3.
