Adaptability of tomato genotypes under mid-hill conditions of Himachal Pradesh

Seventeen diverse genotypes of tomato collected from different sources were evaluated for their performance and interaction with changing environments through the characters like fruit yield, number of fruits/plant, fruit weight and plant height. Stability and adaptability of a genotype were worked out through the parameters like regression coefficient (b.), linear deviation (S~2d) and phenotypic index (p.). The analysis of variance indicated highly significant differences between the genotypes and environments for all the characters studied. The genotype * environment (g * e) interaction along with its linear and non-linear components was also found to be significant for all the traits studied. Owing to the linear regression coefficient values nearing unit (b.. 1) and the non-significant linear deviation (S~2d.) most of the genotypes were found to be stable in their performance over the changing environments. The genotypes bhagyashree and Manikima Sel 2 showed adaptability for fruit yield to different environments. The genotypes Dhanshree and Solan Vjr were found to be adaptable to different environments for number of fruits/plant.
