Petrobras approves order for seven newbuild drillships

At long last, Petrobras has made the first award from the 28-rig newbuild floater tender that it originally launched in the fourth quarter of 2009. The operator has approved an order for seven ultra-deepwater newbuild drillships to be constructed at the Estaleiro Atlantico Sul (EAS) Shipyard in Brazil, although the requirements for the remaining 21 units have yet to be awarded.
