New ultra-deepwater fixtures for Seadrill and Ocean Rig

There has been a noticeable increase in ultra-deepwater (7,500ft) fixture activity on a global basis in recent weeks. West Africa has proven to be no exception, with both Seadrill and Ocean Rig securing contracts in the region for semis West Leo and Eirik Raude respectively. Significantly, both of those fixtures come with day rates north of USD 500,000, considerably so in the case of Eirik Raude. This represents a dramatic increase since the last ultra-deepwater fixture in West Africa in July, when Total firmed up an 18-month plus options contract with newbuild semi Songa Eclipse offshore Angola at a day rate of USD 435,000.
