The use of CEEA 34 in stapled hemorrhoidectomy: suggested modifications in technique.

I read with great interest the article from Singapore by Chew and colleagues [1] regarding the use of CEEA 34 in stapled hemorrhoidectomy. I agree with them about the need for some modifications in the technique. They solved the problem of the use of this stapler in a brilliant way by creating the purse-string suture with the special device contained in the PPH -01/03 kit produced by Ethicon Endo-Surgery (Cincinnati, OH, USA). Indeed literature and reported experiences in stapled hemorrhoidectomy with the CEEA 34 are really difficult to come by. The Premium Plus CEEA 34 (Tyco Healthcare, New Haven, CT, USA) was introduced in Italy for the treatment of hemorrhoids in 2000.
