Because of the accelerated crude oil production from shale formations in the Gulf Coast area, Valero Energy said it will wean its Gulf Coast refineries off oil imports around late 2013. Previously, Valero said imports to Gulf Coast refineries would cease by 2015, but the domestic shale crude supplies have beaten previous expectations.
