The EU has come to an agreement with the UN to scale back the degree to which Europe's ETS that would impact flights departing from and landing in EU member states. The agreement is not as stringent as the previous aviation ETS proposed by die EU as it will now only regulate emissions from flights over European airspace. It will, however, result in airlines surrendering more permits for CO2 emissions which will result in permit demand rising from 48MM to 80MM by 2020.
