US Army looks for $7B in renewable power purchase contracts.

In order to meet a mandate issued by the US Department of Defense, the US Army issued a $7B draft solicitation for renewable power purchase contracts. The mandate calls for a minimum of 25% of electricity to be procured from renewable sources by 2025. The Army will award contracts for geothermal, biomass, wind, and solar systems. Financing, building, owning, and operating of the facilities will be controlled by private contractors. In order to meet the 2025 goal, 2.5MM MWh/y of renewable energy must be added by the Army. Renewable energy credits (RECs) can be generated on-site by the Army, which makes the projects easier to finance.
