UOP has introduced a new nano-scale catalyst for its Unifiex hydrocracking process that will increase conversion of resid feeds to >90%, allowing diesel yields to be raised. According to the director of UOP's heavy oil business, "The demand for low-grade fuel oil is decreasing, while the demand for diesel is growing. So there's a real market opportunity for converting the heavy portion of crude oil."
