After experiencing volatility in June, July, and Aug., spot prices for MTBE slowly, but steadily declined during Oct. and Nov. in both US and Western European markets. In contrast, MTBE prices in Southeast Asia spiked to $l,230/mt cfr on Nov. 14 before dropping to $1,065/mt cfr a week later. Benzene prices in Western Europe fell to $900/mt fob marking the lowest level since Sept. 27, 2010. Meanwhile, spot prices for benzene also fell in the other two markets, but remained slightly above period lows at $3.07/gal fob in the US and $972.5/mt cfr in Southeast Asia. Toluene spot prices were mixed with prices in the US dropping to $3.225/gal fob, prices in Western Europe holding steady at $l,080/mt fob, and prices in Southeast Asia spiking on Nov. 14 before dropping to $l,095/mt cfr on Nov. 21.
