US crude futures soar above $90/bbl on weather support.

Futures prices increased in the shortened trading week to Dec. 24, as the markets were closed on Friday, Dec. 24 ahead of the Christmas holiday on Dec. 25. On Thursday, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose above $91/bbl, to its highest price in more than two years, on cold-weather demand and falling crude and middle distillate stockpiles in the US. Also supportive was data showing strong economic movements in 4Q. Meanwhile, Brent crude continued its rise above $90/bbl during the trading period, nearing $95/bbl on Thursday, as frigid, snowy weather in Europe continued to support prices in mat region.
